anthrax-anthems-ep-ANTHRAX COVERS RUSH’S “ANTHEM.” BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE’S TEMPER, TEMPER SALES

Anthrax‘s long-awaited, much-anticipated 2013 covers EP, ‘Anthems,’ will see a March 19 release date, and to keep the buzz going, a “Viral Video Version” of the band’s take on the Rush classic ‘Anthem’ has made its way onto YouTube.

Posted on the Nuclear Blast Europe YouTube page, fans of Anthrax and Rush can check the song out and decide for themselves if the legendary thrash act did the Rush song justice. Along with Anthrax’s cover of ‘Anthem,’ the band covers Thin Lizzy’s ‘Jailbreak,’ AC/DC‘s ‘TNT,’ Cheap Trick’s ‘Big Eyes,’ Boston’s ‘Smokin” and Journey’s ‘Keep on Runnin’ in the upcoming EP.

“These are all bands I grew up with and have listened to forever,” gushes Anthrax vocalist Joey Belladonna. “It’s just great music. I had fun singing these songs and I was happy recording together with Anthrax, doing classic rock songs. Fun stuff!” Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante also shared his passion for the chosen covers, particularly the Boston classic ‘Smokin’.’ “If ever there were a perfect first album, it’s Boston’s first album,” says Benante. “The harmony leads they did would later be heard by Iron Maiden, which of course would lead to thrash metal.”

In other Anthrax news, guitarist Scott Ian’s solo ‘Speaking Words’ tour has acquired an additional guest for its Australian dates. Fozzy frontman and WWE wrestler Chris Jericho will host the Scott Ian events scheduled for Feb. 26 in Sydney and Feb. 27 in Melbourne. Ian is taking the tour through Europe beginning in May, as well. Check out a preview in the second video below.

“Temper, Temper”, the fourth album from Welsh metallers BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, is likely to sell between 30,000 and 35,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on February 12 via RCA.

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE‘s previous effort, 2010’s “Fever”, opened with 71,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 3 on The Billboard 200 chart. It was also a Top 10 release in the U.K., Japan, Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany and Switzerland.

The Welsh quartet changed the way they approached making an album this time around, with guitarist/vocalist Matt Tuck and drummer Michael “Moose” Thomas traveling to Thailand to do the initial writing and recording for the album. Tuck told The Pulse Of Radio why they made the trip. “It was just nice being in a studio 24/7, really, you know, with no distractions from home and stuff,” he said. “So that was kind of the main reason why we went there and it just worked out well, you know, because we didn’t have any pressures from having to travel, having to cook your own food — just all the stuff that is an everyday process obviously takes a lot of time out of the day to be creative. So just being there, being able to write 24/7, was a huge advantage.”

The first single from “Temper, Temper” is called “Riot”.

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE will headline the fifth edition of the“HardDrive Live” tour, which will kick off on April 12 in Denver. Joining them will be main support HALESTORM, plus special guests YOUNG GUNS and openers STARS IN STEREO. The trek is sponsored by the nationally syndicated weekly Active Rock radio program “HardDrive”.
